about this event

The Tannahill Weavers, now in their 53rd year, are one of Scotland’s leading traditional bands. Known for their lively performances and rich repertoire, they blend centuries-old Celtic traditions with modern rhythms, creating a vibrant sound that appeals to both old and young. Their fire-driven instrumentals, original ballads, and humorous stage presence have earned them worldwide acclaim, with their music reflecting the deep cultural heritage of Scotland.

Formed in 1968 in Paisley, the Tannahill Weavers brought a fresh energy to Scottish music by combining traditional melodies with full-sized Highland bagpipes, an innovation at the time. Founding members Roy Gullane and Phil Smillie, along with a rotating lineup of talented musicians, breathed new life into Scotland’s folk scene. Their powerful combination of pipes, flute, fiddle, and guitar, along with rich vocal harmonies, has won them fans across Europe, Canada, and the United States.

Over the years, the Tannahills have been trailblazers in the folk music scene, receiving honors such as induction into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame. Their 50th Anniversary album, *Òrach*, released in 2018, was highly praised. With a recent lineup change, including the addition of Iain MacGillivray, the band continues to deliver unforgettable performances, maintaining their status as one of Scotland’s premier traditional music groups.
