about this event
Formed in 2022, this prize-winning ensemble is currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester. The quartet has enjoyed playing recitals both within college and externally, including a residency at the 2024 Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival. They were fortunate to win both the Hirsch Prize 2023 with their performance of Beethoven’s Opus 18 No.1, and the Elias Prize 2024 with compositions written by their violist and cellist.
The group are lucky to receive coaching from the Elias quartet and have also performed alongside them in concerts, one of which was during their residency at the Wye Valley Chamber Music Festival this summer. They chose the name ‘Juna’ for its multitude of meanings (eg. courage, gentleness, and woodland) in various languages, and to appreciate the word as a woman’s name.Audiences often comment on the bubbly dynamic of the ensemble, and the friendship which they keep at the heart of their music making.
The programme includes Haydn’s effervescent String
Quartet in D Major, Op.20 No.4, and ‘The Evergreen’ by Caroline Shaw, a
beautifully evocative set of 4 pieces inspired by one particular tree on Swiikw Island, off
the west coast of Canada.
