Four best-selling authors discuss the world of crime fiction and psychological thrillers. Sarah Clarke’s debut novel A Mother Never Lies was published in 2019. Her fifth book, will be published in June 2025. Nikki Smith has published four novels and is a co-host of the podcast and vodcast In Suspense alongside Lesley Kara. AA Chaudhuri is the author of four thrillers, including The Loyal Friend and, most recently, Under Her Roof published in 2024. Paul Waters is the author of Murder in Moonlit Square and historical thriller Blackwatertown.
A.A. Chaudhuri is a former City lawyer, turned thriller writer, who lives in Surrey with her family.
She gained a Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at the London College of Law, before training as a solicitor. She left law in 2008 to pursue her passion for writing.
The Scribe and The Abduction, published in 2019, are her first crime book series, plunging readers into London’s glamorous legal world and featuring series’ heroine, Maddy Kramer, fiction’s first female City lawyer amateur sleuth, who teams up with charismatic DCI Jake Carver to solve a gruesome series of murders and a puzzling abduction. Both books have hit the bestsellers lists in the UK, Australia and Canada, with bestseller tags in Australia and Canada.
She has since published four stand-alone psychological thrillers – She’s Mine (2021), The Loyal Friend (2022), The Final Party (2023) and Under Her Roof (2024) with a fifth – The School Gates – due out in June this year.
Besides being an avid reader, she enjoys fitness, films, anything Italian and a good margarita.
Paul Waters is the author of Murder in Moonlit Square, the first in a new Irish-Indian cosy crime series set in Delhi coming out this year. He's also the author of the historical thriller Blackwatertown described by Frederick Forsyth as "extremely intriguing".
Paul also co-hosts the award-winning We'd Like A Word books and authors podcast, organises the Chiltern Kills crime festival in October and the Khushwant Singh LitFest, and makes radio shows for BBC Radio 4 and the World Service.
Nikki Smith studied English Literature at Birmingham University, before pursuing a career in finance where she worked for various companies including BDO and Morgan Stanley.
Following a ‘now or never’ moment, she applied for a Curtis Brown Creative course on which she started writing her debut novel All In Her Head which went on to be an Amazon bestseller, was nominated for the Guardian ‘Not The Booker Prize’ and has been optioned for TV.
Her second novel, Look What You Made Me Do was published in 2021, followed by The Beach Party in 2023, with The Guests following in 2024. She is a co-host of the podcast and vodcast In Suspense alongside Lesley Kara.

Sarah Clarke is a best-selling author of psychological thrillers. After studying International Politics at university, travelling the world for 6 years, and completing 5 ski seasons, Sarah moved to London and became a copywriter, wife and mother.
In 2019 Sarah studied novel writing at the Faber Academy, and her debut novel A Mother Never Lies published two years later. It quickly became a best-seller and stayed in the Kindle top 100 for over six weeks.
Sarah has since published four further novels, including her latest thriller Then Night She Dies. Sarah's next book – Someone in the Water – will publish in June 2025.
