about this event

Angelina is a prize-winning Ukrainian pianist, flautist and composer. She was 24 when the war broke into her life. In September, it will be two years since Angelina left her family, friends and homeland and moved to the UK.

In this special and very moving programme, Angelina will share beautiful and poignant Ukrainian music by Lysenko alongside Chopin, Debussy, Schubert and her own compositions. Through music, she will explore her personal journey of war, loss and hope.

Donations from this concert will go jointly to United24, the charity set up by President Zelensky as the official fund-raising platform for Ukraine, and Cranleigh Arts.

"My music journey began when I first saw the old piano at my grandparents’ house. I was only 5 years old, and since that time, I can’t imagine my life without music. I insisted on being taken to the local music school and luckily my parents agreed!

For nine years I studied music at the local music school, giving recitals and taking part in local and international music competitions. At the age of 15, I decided to become a professional musician and began my education at Kherson Music College. This experience was unforgettable, with my artistic life filled with concerts and master-classes from famous pianists.

After graduating from Kherson, I continued improving my skills at the National Pedagogical Dragomanov University, one of the biggest universities in the capital city of Ukraine, Kyiv. This period was extremely busy, as I was jointly studying piano and flute and also started (my still continuing) teaching career. At the university, I was a member of two orchestras – classical and folk. We had many performances at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine and other popular concert venues. In 2020, I graduated with a Masters degree in flute, in 2021 in piano.

As well as my studies, I enjoyed performing in international competitions including Ostriv Zlagod Competition, Bulgaria, (2020, 1st prize), Podilskyi Vodogray Competition, Vinnytsia,Ukraine, (2017, 2nd prize)  and  Art Klavier Competition,  Kyiv (2018, 3rd prize).

My journey as a composer started back in 2020 when I wrote my first piece ‘War’, a piece that became very special for me due tocircumstances at that time. In that same year, I joined a pop-rock band ‘Malerotta,’ and co-wrote our songs. As a band, we filmed some music videos, and one of our songs was successfully released on Ukrainian radio.

In September 2022, I arrived in the UK. After a year living and working in Surrey, I moved to London and am studying composition, and particularly enjoying experimenting and cultivating my own musical style. I hope to release my first album soon."
